Research experiences:
development of information optical technologies for a wide range of applications, in particular, different methods of calculating diffractive optical elements (DOE) and optical devices using DOE; DOE characteristics study using computational and physical experiments; development and research of diffractive microrelief formation for optical elements, modelling devices and components of the diffraction nanophotonics.
N. L. Kazanskiy supervised a number of contract research projects for research organisations, including the Fiat Research Centre (27 contracts), Berlin Institute of Optics, Institute of Applied Physics (Friedrich-Schiller University), Linotype-Hell (Germany), Institute of High Technology Physics (Germany), the Directorate for technical development of AvtoVAZ OAO, Kuibyshevazot ZAO, Applied Problems department at the Presidium of the RAS, the Presidium of Samara Scientific Centre of the RAS, government contracts for the Ministry of Industry, Science and Technology. He supervised the projects of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, the Presidium of the RAS, the RAS Department of Nanotechnology and Information Technologies, INTAS grant projects, U.S. Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF), the Ministry of Education and Science of the Samara region.
Under Kazanskiy’s supervision, 5 PhD theses and 1 doctoral thesis have been defended.
Main scientific achievements obtained in recent years:
- high-performance distributed computing systems have been implemented for redundancy and load optimization when solving problems of mathematical physics and processing large-format images
- the software for problem-oriented computer systems has been developed to optimize the performance of special lighting devices and detect resonance effects in optical nanoheterostructures during the computational experiments in photonics
- under his supervision and with direct participation, a number of grid and cloud services has been implemented, as well as distributed computer systems for specific purposes of designing and organising a unified information environment of experimental research and testing in engineering and optical instrumentation
- the theoretical basis of research automation of optical information systems has been developed with enhanced study of diffraction processes and their impact on the quality of the image
- based on information technology, a number of automated methods for the formation and control of optical micro- and nanostructures has been implemented.

- development of information technologies to solve problems in optics and image processing in the field of distributed computing, mathematical modelling and computer vision
- development of methods for calculation and modelling DOE, optical and nanophotonic devices
- development of technologies for the formation and study of micro- and nanorelief.
